I was flipping the pages of Arvind Adiga's The White tiger ,it was a beautiful presentation of agony and frusration of the poor ?no, the bellyless people -as he classifies the people in the country into two catogeries bellied& belly less. It is a light hearted way of looking at the most serious things in the present day world .The character Munna /Balaram Hawaii finds his way from the masses and slums into the Banglorean life style of night shifts and day breaks.
A small paragraph in the book particularly overwhelmed me , since I personally feel the pain and agony of the people he described in that particular para. He follows a street dog into the slums where the construction workers stay, these people live in horrible conditions with no proper sanitation .He describes two kids fighting for a note in the gutter ,I see the same events through my window sill in the hostel all day long. There's some construction work going in the college ,and the workers have been provided temporary shelthers ,these people work day and night for the sake of people who want to live in the glass buildings but don't they atleast deserve the basic sanitation facilities? they defecate in the open ground, and imagine the plight of female labourers?
The book presented the idea of poverty in a new dimension, but some points in the book were a bit offensive ,even Gandhiji had to bear the brunt of Munna at a point .overall its a refreshing work..
