Last week I was in chennai , for the IIT Madras techfest SHAASTRA ....to present a robot.
firstly, two of us have gone to chennai., later two of my team mates came to chennai with a robot...mind you its not a bot made of wood , aluminium, thermacol,or any simple..student made product it is a high end industrial bot made of carbon steel I mean to say a bot which can be directly used in industry,or can directly be used for application purpose and its not a prototype
We, ( Dhawal my friend and me) started on 2 october from Manipal to Chennai, our train was scheduled around 9:30pm and we reached the station at 9:27pm we weren't sure if our tickets were confirmed because just the previous day they were waitlisted at around 31.but miraculously our seats were confirmed.
then, we entered into the train and it slowly, embraced three states (karnataka, kerala, tamilnadu) and finally reached chennai, as we were about to reach we thought of having idli sambar ( tamil nadu special) but when tried to take a piece of idli i realised it was not idli..but a deadly ,puddly rubber so somehow tried to chew the rubber..
got down at the station, and called my friend Chakri @ IIT and enquired the way to come, then as he told us we went to the Park lane local train station ,after waiting for a long time observing all tamil thambis then arrived the train like a jet ,seriously they are using electric traction of 25kv
I was taken aback by the precise electrical system design in the stations and the proper switch gear protection ,it just stops hardly for 1 minute and picks up a speed of around 60-70kmph in less than 1 miute and there are stations for every 200m ,the only disadvantage is the stations are located somewhere remotedly you have to search for them.
soon we were in the mind boggling campus of IIT M there we had the sponsorers welcoming us with their banners google, caterpillar, polaris, renault nissan, vestas, to name a few..we immediatly settled in the last row of the in campus bus and got down at Ganga hostel and adjusted ourselves in my friends room. the rooms were really bad , I can say MIT rooms are far better than theirs,so that day we had to get some equipment ready for the project and we were out of the campus to Egmore soon we were looted by a tamil thambi, by saying "ennaa appa istha duram ikkadilla" he looted 50 rupees for 3 km then we decided what might matter in the struggle never travel by auto in chennai
The local train zoomed us to Egmore and we virtually hit black and blue by the response of the people there when we asked for a particular address it took us 2 hours to just go to a street behind the one we were standing, but you know Murphy always has something in store for us ,so this time the shop was closed after the struggle so we were forced to return back to the pavillion ,then we found some Chettinand restaurant and we then recollected that its famous in Chennai and ordered some really good sounding chicken but were frustrated when he brought the dish which tasted like crap,we then thought " its not Chettinand it is chetta annand"..returned to the campus..and tried to sleep sometime while having war with the mosquitoes with brains( the IIT walaaa mosquitoes)
